One suggestion that might help on the off command. The NEC HT1000 has a setting (somewhere in the setup menu) where you can tell it to prompt you if you want a dialog box confirmation to turn off the projector. If you set this, then the off command doesn't have to be a long duration, and it's a matter of hitting off and then ok.
