But I have to say you wrong about changing the touchscreen
is the best way for the unreponsiveness, there is a cheaper
way (since you can do a lot of remotes), that is to use
a silver based epoxy and replace the ribon of the screen
with wire.

The 1900's replacment I now use only for broken touchscreen.

How did you manage to lift off the ribon from the touchscreen ?
After one month from th job I have agai the problem so I now have decided to lift the ribon and to fix it by means of 4 solderings.

Did you use a solvent ?
