OK if this does not work or hangs dont blame me !
When I first got my machine the first thing I wanted to do was upgrade the firmware.
I could not connect to my WAP or do anything with the web browser. I (think) I changed the settings to fixed IP, address as above and in the "about" screen pushed the upgrade firmware button. At that time I did not appear to have an internet connection.
Make sure the power is connected, and close to your wap and make sure your wap is connected to the internet. I use a proxy but you fortunate people with broadband wont need that ?
Mine took a couple of reeboots but finally connected and upgraded the firmware. It took a LONG time for me, about 1 and 1/2 hours, and goes through 6 sectors (ish?) and is a bit scary.
I gather there is a new version out next week so you may or may not want to wait till then.
