Hi,
No i did not sink the unit in, its straight onto the wall.
I can assure you even with 1" square velcro will not come off!
Just to be safe I use strips apx 4" x 1" . 2 off top and bottom
Each 1" square will hold something silly like 7kg in a shear action.
Trust me will NOT come off.
