What I mean is: disable encryption altogether. Then set up the router with MAC Address Filtering enabled, and only allow access to specified MAC addresses. It's not 100% secure, but neither is WEP, and iPronto won't accept WPA. To be honest, MAC filtering is probably fine for most home Networks, unless you are running an FBI security system or are likely to be targetted by professional Wi-Fi snoopers!

It was a lucky coincidence involving a new router and a new ISP that allowed me to discover this fix. MAC Filtering means only known computers can access the Network, but the actual data transmission is not encrypted, so you won't suddenly get your neighbours leeching off your Internet connection.
