When you characterize your device, you can set up the list of inputs it has.

You can then set up the infrared commands that go to each input. This can be more than one button press; I think you may have to modify the XML to achieve this though.

In the device XML, there will be one element for each input you have defined. Within this, will be one subelement containing the button to press to get to that input. You can add another element so you now press two buttons.
