BD is not MPEG2 Like HD DVD it can have MPEG2, VC-1 or AVC. Also the CODEC does not matter. MPEG2 can look incredibly good

HD-DVD is backed better by the manufacturers

lol, what manufacturers? you have a choice of Toshiba, Toshiba or Toshiba.
