Think of it as a shortcut to different button layout that you can customize to control your A/V receiver (sound) or display (picture). You can also teach other IR commands from other devices to your receiver or display device and use them from the sound or picture mode. When you go into customize buttons for the activity, look at the tabs on the web page. The current tab should say Activity but you should also see tabs for Sound and Picture.
