The sound is sent through the HDMI cable. One cable is carrying both sound and video.
I will try again on programing. I did see the Sound and Picture tabs. I must have not looked correctly. I expected just to have a "Sound" and a "Picture" button that I could select the correct IR code for (like any other button on the remote)
