Oh my - you're still using a RF connection from the Tivo to the TV? Sharing the coax with cable? That's the worst possible picture quality (not to mention the problem you had with needing to put it in standby).

Why can't you split the cable, feed one to the Tivo and one to the TV and use an A/V input (preferably S video) for the Tivo? If your TV is so old it doesn't even have a S video input - it's time to upgrade!
