For what it's worth, I'm now getting this error on an older SST-659. I was trying to get Windows to recognize it as well, and followed the troubleshooting instructions that said to remove the batteries and connect via USB. Did you do that as well?
I was trying to update the firmware, but couldn't get Windows to see the USB device.
