Just received a used Harmony H688. Remote was operational until I tried to get Windows XP to recognize the device on the USB port. I pulled the batteries out and hooked up to my pc via USB and now get this error:

System Error 1
1. Disconnect USB
2. Remove and reinsert batteries

I have done both steps numerous times with fresh batteries, same error.
Any ideas?
