There is a document written by Barry Gordon in the files|user documentation that explains how to decode Pronto hex.

There is also a program, ccf2efc written by John Fine that translates Pronto ccf files into IR protocol/device/command for 80+% of the equipment.

There is another program, MakeHex also written by John Fine that can take the Protocol/Device numbers found in ccf2efc and generate all of the possible commands.

If this question is related to the Boston Acoustics receiver question, then I don't think that ccf2efc will recognize that IR protocol.

If you don't have a Pronto then the other and somewhat related solution is to buy a One-For-All remote with a JP1 connector and buy or build a cable.

The freeware program IR that controls the interface between the PC And the OFA remote is very polished and can translate learned commands (using the methodology of ccf2efc) into Protocol, Device and command. If it can't decode those commands it will still provide the "raw data" that are the timings of the bursts in microseconds.

IR has a save feature and in addition to saving the configuration including macros upgrades etc., it saves the learned commands. Those files are frequently posted to the very active user group and few IR commands, however obscure, remain mysteries for very long.

This combination has the further value of an extensive ability to generate discrete commands and an upgrade library. For more information go to www.hifi-remote.com and look at the information on how to upgrade the remote.
