I actually bought a JP1 cable years ago when I was trying to program discrete on/off on my DirecTV HD Tivo years ago. But I've since forgotten how to do all of this. I'll go back and read up on the JP1 site that I was using before (on hifi-remote-dot-com if I'm not mistaken) and see if I can get this done.

Honestly, I kind of clueless as to the issues you discuss in that last paragraph. But I'll try to educate myself on JP1 again and try to work through it. I hope you won't mind if while going through this process I ask another question or two about this.
