where did you get the
device numbers from?
He might have used the JP1 version of IrTool plus DecodeIr.dll
[Link: hifi-remote.com][Link: remotecentral.com]With those you can decode most Pronto Hex strings. The Pronto Hex string you posted decoded as Denon-K protocol, device 7, subdevice 4, function 23.
Then someone who either remembered common Denon signal sets, or who knew how to search RemoteCentral for other threads about Denon Kaseikyo signals could find other devices using that same Denon-K:7.4:23 signal and then look at other signals for such devices.
I didn't do all that (this time). I'm just guessing what JasonVP might have done.

i don't seem able to get a clean learn.
What's wrong with that learn? The Pronto Hex you posted looks pretty clean to me.
