Are you sure about that? I haven't seen a lot of learned (rather than generated) NEC2 7.7 signals.
Some devices aren't very picky about signal timing and will work just fine with NEC2 even though they're designed for NECx2.
I haven't specifically investigated Samsung LCD's, so I don't know, but I wonder whether they use NEC2 as you say or whether they use NECx2 but are non picky about timing so that either NEC2 or NECx2 will work.
