If you turn off the lights is the IR system working OK?What kind of power supply are you using? Are you using sheilded data wire? If yes did you try placing a 470ohm resistor from your ground terminals on the connecting block to the IR in .Then connect the sheild of the data cable to the ground terminal .The resistor will discharge the cable capacitance more quickly allowing the IR codes to pass without data loss.
The 780-80 is a great unit I have installed a lot of them and never had a problem with Flourescent interference .
