Looking for a low cost ir solution to the following problem:

I want to install a new radio in my boat. The radio mounts inside the cabin. There is no direct line of sight from the helm to the radio. Looking for a way to carrier the ir from remote to radio. I have nosed around smarthome for a while and can figure out how to do it for a couple hundred but really did not want to spend that much. Any ideas?
