A RF remote suggested by Larry Fine sounds interesting and might work for this specific application. Does anybody know of a “learning” RF remote?

In a previous life, I worked on a device called the TeleMaster. Basically, it was a phone interface to IR generator. It had a couple of cool bells and whistles such as voice prompting.

With the TeleMaster, a user was able to control his or her components via a phone (this application calls for a wireless phone). The TeleMaster never made it to the market for several reasons. But, I wonder if a similar product exist today?
