The first Wega I set up with an A/V system allowed me to go into the menu and turn the internal speakers off; then set the rear panel audio output to FIXED (the only useful way to set it); then go back and turn the speaker back on. The fixed output remained active. The next one or two wouldn't let me do that. Then another worked. Now I'd say 8 out of 10 won't let me - as soon as I turn the speakers back on, the output goes variable.
What a dumb setup. 90% of the clients with A/V systems needing a feed from the TV for audio still have a wife who only wants to turn on the TV and listen in the internal speakers.
I know I can use a VCR for audio out but changing channels with the VCR is not as straightforward. We need to keep it easy.
Am I missing something here?

There is no truth anymore. Only assertions. The internet world has no interest in truth, only vindication for preconceived assumptions.
