MickP, Try Xantech's 2 zone system. It has an input for each zone's ir reciever, that outputs only to that zone's device.(reciever or pre-amp).And a common output for sources (vcr,dvd, cd).You may have to tie in extra emitters or series them together for more than two souces.. But this allows you to even use the same brand reciever..
