The DA4 has 2 different remote commands; command mode 1 and 2. I think out of the box, the receiver is set to code 2, which the discretes do not work for. If you go into the set-up menu, you can change the command code to 1. If you plan on using the multi-room remote, just make sure you put that on code 2.

Let me clarify discretes(Under command mode 1): If you select a source, the receiver turns on and goes to that source. IE select DVD input and the DA4 turns on and goes to DVD. If you use the "Whole system" Sony off command, the receiver turns off.

I know there is a "Receiver off" command, but I personally haven't had an issue where I needed it. I have not tried the Receiver off discrete.
