If the system you have works with all components except the cable box, why do you conclude that plasma interference is the problem? How does the plasma garbage keep from throwing itself into the mix when you are controlling the other stuff, but then come out from hiding when you try to control the cable box?

If you turn off the plasma, does the system control the cable box? Okay, if it does, then is it possible for any of the (IR or RF) garbage from the plasma to reach the cable box directly?
A good answer is easier with a clear question giving the make and model of everything.
