I wholeheartedly recommend that Spacer System lamp dimmer. The lutron remote seems to have a surprisingly strong IR emitter, but if you want to control it with a pronto, you need an emitter on it. Good news is that it has a long "umbilical cord" so you can stick it behind a table or on the floor.
I agree w/ avdude about X-10... avoid like the plague.
