Simon reminds me of an old DSS problem -- when a DSS was set up to record to a VCR, an emitter from the DSS receiver was placed on the VCR. This emitter put out some kind of IR garbage all of the time, so sometimes the VCR did not respond, or did not respond quickly, to its own remote. The solution for that was to move the emitter away from the VCR's sensor, lowering the level of the IR garbage going into the VCR.
As has already been asked, is there other IR there?
Also, does the DVD player's factory remote do this too? I assume it does not as you only mention a problem with the 3000, but things would be more clear if we knew that the factory remote did or did not have the same problem.

A good answer is easier with a clear question giving the make and model of everything. "The biggest problem in communication is the illusion that it has taken place." -- G. “Bernie” Shaw |
