Before doing any cutting, I would check with local building codes. If the wall in the apatrment is common with another unit, it's considered a party wall, and must have a 2 hour fire rating (at least here anyway). I imagine you may run into a similar situation in teh ceiling. If that's not the case, I would only use Triads.
