other day u can get a on and off by hitting settings twice,
changing power to numeric, then call an exit which cancels

That's the Scientific Atlanta ones. 0-Exit for "On" and 0-Exit-Power for "Off".
The Motorola's can be done by Menu-Power for "On" and Menu-Menu-Power for "Off".
HDMI passthrough is terrible with the Motorola one's I've used. For the life of me, I can't get it through a Yamaha RX-V2700.
