@ the end of the long painful road we were able to control the samsung TV's via RS232 using the EXLINK jack. The only problem is that the commands only work while the TV is on. Once the TV is off the commands do not work.
We went up thru many levels of tech support at samsung. Wasted phone calls. Then our programmer remembered a contact he knew at samsung that contacted korea and got us a diagram of the cable/rs-232 communication settings and a list of commands. Samsung's support didn't have access to any of this informationfor some reason.
The last i heard was that samsung may have to come out to change "boards" in each set. My advice is to stay away from Samsung if your planning to control your display via rs-232.
FYI the discreet IR codes work fine but the emitters have to travel up the face of the TV to the round power button in the bezel. The glossy black finish helps hide the emitters but it still SUX to have them hanging in front when our control system has rs-232.
