Some functions for Sony receivers reside in code 0159. It is unlikely that every feature is supported.
When an equipment manufacturer creates a new device, it is up to the Universal Remote manufacturer to figure out it's IR code function list and include it in their remotes. I'm sure some can be "licensed" from the device manufacturer, some can be learned from the device's own remote, and some can be found just experimenting with a range of IR codes similar to the known ones for the device.
Does OFA have to create one for this device and put it in firmware? If the device does not use the same codes system used on earlier models, then YES, OFA will have to put them in the firmware of their new or upgradeable remote.
In other words, the newer your equipment is, the less likely you'll find a universal remote that will support it completely. Thankfully, most manufacturers maintain the same code system for several model/years, only adding new codes as they add new features.
The LEARN feature of universal remotes is their best shot at a long life. I've got an OLD gemini universal learning remote that still works for me, even though I'm on the 3rd receiver, 4th VCR and DVD and DSS didn't exist when this remote was made. This is also why I bought a Pronto, since it is COMPLETELY learning, and should survive all my future equipment upgrades, so long as they are IR controlled. My Cinema7 comes VERY close to being perfect, but it's learn memory is just too small.
