I have the Yamaha 2095, and here's what I did:
The default mapping placed the inputs on the numbered keys - I pretty much left those as is. There were no DSP modes mapped at all. Since I don't use a whole lot of DSP modes anyways, I assigned them to the L1, L2, L3, L4 buttons. I did this for each main device - only placing device-pertinent DSP modes on the L keys - sometimes not using all the keys. This allows for up to eight different DSP modes per device selection. I then use the SURROUND button for the main Effect On/Off toggle in all device modes.
Hope this gives you some ideas.
