Earlier, when you had EFC 217 for the Setup button working (under code 0160), did this cycle you through the tone controls?

If so, try this: Reprogram the remote to reciever device 0160, and reprogram the Setup button to EFC 217. This time, use Setup to cycle through modes, and when you get to bass, use the cursor keys on the original remote to see if they control this variable.

My Denon remote, like yours, doesn't have a function to allow me to adjust tone. But I'm using the exact same method I described above and that works fine.
