Thanks very much for the suggestion, but it didn't work... I reset it with 981 (btw, why can't I find this reset procedure in the manual?) but 975, 976, and 979 still get the long error flash instead of two quick ones.

I read in another post that sometimes the batteries can affect this thing's operation. I have tried both Alkalines and NiMH rechargables.

I guess I will take it back to Radio Shack or try their remote tech support phone line. It's a real pity.. other than this problem (which of course ruins everything) I love this remote! It has comprehensive codes for 4 of my 5 devices, and I managed to find the fifth (an obscure little Aiwa mini deck) with manual scan.

Oh well... I really just got this to play around with until my MX-500 arrives :)
