OK, so I killed the modem. I don't care about that at all -- it's hard for me to imagine doing anything by modem that I couldn't already do by jp1! (By the way, how does one interact with the modem anyway -- do you somehow hook a phone up to the remote via the jp1 connector??)
Anyway, I don't care about the modem, but what irks me is how badly I butchered the puck, since I was really looking forward to using my '2117'.
For those inquiring minds that wonder how I screwed it up so badly, well, I kept heating the four pin connectors at the pcb, and as I tugged to pull the puck off, the puck in fact pulled away from the four pins (leaving the four pins sticking out of the pcb and leaving a naked puck without any connectors). If I was any good at this, I could probably fix it, but hey, if I waas any good at this, that would never have happened in the first place.)
If I can find a cheap 8090 or something like that, I'll try again. Otherwise, I'll wait until the official 2117s are out.
