I'm in a condo with a white ceiling
and walls, if that makes a difference.

That depends on where you aim your remote.

In a few different rooms with many different remotes, I've found that aiming at a white ceiling half way between me and the device often works better than aiming at the device itself.

With the RCU810 and with any OEM remote I've ever tried, aiming perfectly at the device is best, aiming generally at the right part of the ceiling is second best, but aiming at the device and missing by a little is much worse than aiming at the right part of the ceiling and missing by a similar amount. If you don't want to aim accurately, then aiming at the ceiling is better than aiming at the device.

The 6012 is the one remote I've tried that doesn't do well bouncing the signal off the ceiling.

The 7200 and 6800 do well bouncing the signal off the ceiling, but do just as well when quite badly aimed at the device itself.
