I've noticed on my recent visits to six different Walmarts that none of them had 6012w's. I can't remember the last time I saw a 6012w in a Walmart (though it's more recent than the last time I saw the Walmart version of 8011).

Finding the 2104 for $9.97 may be easier than finding the 6012w for $15.

Remember the 6012 has no eeprom nor JP1 connector. I wouldn't get it (for the purpose that started this thread) unless I was sure the setup codes I needed was built in and supported EFCs. The 2104 has a JP1 connector. If it turns out not support EFCs in the desired setup code, just get a JP1 cable. (2103 is also serious work to add JP1 to).

BTW, the 2104's at the RS I went to were out of view in a cabinet, so I asked for them and as the salesman took the first box out, he quickly took the remote out of the box to show me the remote. That masked the fact that it wasn't packed right. I didn't notice until I left the store that it was obviously a return from a previous customer. I tested it at home and it had that stupid scrambled key symptom. That must have driven the previous customer nuts. Fortunately, that's easy to fix.

I suspect a fair fraction of the 2104's still available are customer returns. Some may have more serious defects. I'd suggest testing it pretty quickly after you buy it in case you need to get it exchanged.
