I 'guess' the weird font was caused by my using

I'd noticed the notation that html was recognized, and I thought that meant it was needed. So I used the easiest choice for me.

I get 4 flashes. I believe it is not resetting because the device keys cannot be reassinged. i.e. I cannot swap a vcr device to a receiver. The original receiver codes stay with the receiver button. I determine that by observing that the receiver still respnds to receiver commands, which by then should have been wiped out.

Is that a valid assumption on my part?
