What model DVD player, and are you sure about that 0671?

Most Philips DVD players use DVD/0539, which is in the 8910 and in the 8910's manual and I expect you tried it already. Are you really sure it doesn't work? It's best to test DVD players with basic transport commands, such as PLAY rather than with the power key. There are several reasons that the basic transport keys might work when other keys such as power don't. You're a lot closer to solving the problem when you know a setup code in which some keys work.
