First of all my current system consists of:

Bose Lifestyle 28/35 Home Entertainment System
General Instrument Cable Converter Box
Sony CDP-C245 multi disk CD player
Today I went and purchased a URC-300 remote ...had | the Panni, and the GI Cable
box programmed in just a few minutes. So far

The codes provided for the CD player
didn't work, but I figured I'd work that out later.
You could have learned them directly into the 300. It has enough memory.
The problem begins with the Bose system. From
what I gather reading here, the URC-300 and the
Bose are incompatable since the Bose is an IR
emitter/receiver,
IR *AND* RF (you made the RF correction in a later post). The Bose Lifestyle 28/35 Home Entertainment System can accept either IR *OR* RF commands. More on that later.
and the URC-300 is something
else.
It is an IR *AND* RF emitter, IR only receiver. It can not directly control your Bose, without the RF extender module referred to below.
Now the packaging doesn't mention this,
but it goes on and on about how you can boost
the performance with an add on IR repeater kind
of device for additional bucks.
They are referring to a MRF-100A RF extender module which allows you to control the system from anywhere in the house, just like your original remote. Reread the review on this site to learn more about it.
I know, they're
talking about different things, but at the time
of purchase I didn't realize that the remote was
going to cause a problem. Or that it talked a
different language, if you will.

There are a couple of devices that act the same as the MRF-100A RF extender module, yes.
Actually I started to get confused at that point.
Furthermore, I didn't want to have to go buy
something else and find out (possibly) that it
didn't work too. I'm trying to make things simpler
right?!?

OK, so I make another trip to the store, let the
salesman guy know that it doesn't work with Bose
and get my money back.
When I get home I start searching for IR remotes,
and find some info about using the Bose wired
IR emitter (which I have) to learn the remote.
But I don't see how that can work since it's
still using IR frequency right? And, now I don't
have the remote to even test this. I also find
some info about OFA 9910 remotes, which by the
way sell on-line for a lot less, but then there's
talk of a true learning remote, additional tuner
codes, not enough memory, a JP1 cable and programming,
setup codes that aren't included, toggle bits.....I'm
LOST!

If anyone has any ideas about what direction they
would go if they were me, I would really appreciate

Your Bose can be set to receive RF (works from around the house) or IR (line of sight) commands. But it can only receive one kind at a time.
The URC-300 sends IR commands. It also has a module inside it that sends RF commands on the frequency of the MRF-100A RF extender module (NOT the same frequency as the Bose). The MRF-100A RF extender module receives these commands and converts them to IR.
If your system is set up to receive only IR, then you can not control your living room system from the bedroom with just the remote. You are not in the line of sight.
If you have a device that sits on a table in front of your system (MRF-100A RF extender module) and relays the command for you, you can. Making sense?
Your Bose system also has an IR emitter to teach the commands to an IR remote. More in your manual.
Your options:
1. Go back and get the URC-300 with no MRF-100A RF extender module. You will only be able to control your system while in front of it.
2. Go back and get the URC-300 with MRF-100A RF extender module. You will be able to control your system from anywhere.
3. Save some money and buy yourself a URC-9910. It has the RF extender module, and VERY good technical support even if you don't go the jp1 route. For jp1 info see Robman's signature.
