There is an upgrade posted in the JP1 files are for that same N996 model. It does seem to match the setup code DVD/0782. If RS can load that over the phone for you, that is a good plan.
If there is a problem with that, the setup code TV/0717 has the same signals, but not assigned to the right keys. For example the TV power key is the DVD open/close. The TV menu key is the DVD '5' key, etc.
With a bunch of EFC KeyMoves (from the list from that JP1 upgrade) you could correct TV/0717 to operate the DVD.
