Thanks James but I had already corrected the problem.
I used the supplied componet cable when connecting
the receiver to the TV and plan to pick up an
HDMI IF you think it will provide a noticeable
difference from the componet cable. At the time,
I had no idea that an S cable was only capable
of 480i instead of 1080i. Nor was I aware when
I purchased the TV that Dish Network only has
5 stations available in HD excluding the HBO package
that I really care nothing about. Whe will the
"required" shift to HD take place for the broadcast
companies and networks?
Thanks for your help,
Jeff
Jeff,
I am glad you noticed cabling issue before programming the remote.
The "required shift" doesn't really have a "hard date" set for the transition from analog to digital. The present law states 2006 OR when 85% of the viewers in a viewing area have the ability to receive digital transmission. The 85% number will take a long time to reach so I have read that some in congress want to push for the hard date of 2006. Just remember that this transition doesn't mandate High Definition only digital transmission.
My understanding regarding component vs. HDMI is that if you have an analog TV i.e. RPTV CRT then the difference is negligible. I would just use the component cable unless you need to free up an input. If you have a digital TV i.e. DLP, LCD, or plasma, the HDMI might give you better picture quality.
Good luck.
