It's also easier to block a swing from an opponent who is winding up from the opposite side of their body. More time to see it coming, more time to react, more time to defend. This is why a boxer uses a jab to set up their opponent and weaken their defense before delivering the knock blow (usually a right cross for right-handed boxers).
As for the original question... I guess it all depends whether you consider today to be Auguts 12th or the 12th of August. For example:
In English I would say I'm on vacation from August 20th to September 3rd but in Italian I would way "Dal venti agosto al tre settembre" Which is literally translated as "From twenty August to the three september"
