It might depend on the allergy . . . true nuts are one allergy, while "peanuts" are a totally different allergy.
Peanuts are actually a Legume (as in BEAN), and can be a VERY big problem for those allergic, as even peanut oil can cause a reaction. Peanut Oil is a chef favorite because of it's high heat tolerance, but is often not included in the list of ingredients on most restaurant menus.
Gets to be a BITCH when you must ask such specific questions of the Chef (who should know), or the counter help (who hasn't a clue) when you go out to eat!
