Here in the states it is taken for granted that we are the "land of the free". People who come over here from other countries/nations to visit enjoy their time here (hopefully) and do what any sensible human being would and should do when in a situation requiring communication through a language barrier...LEARN BASIC PHRASES IN THE DIALECT OF THE NATIVES!! We're not asking everyone to be fluent, but at least be able to get your point across. The problem seems to arise in the area of the immigrants that move here, expect all of the wonderfull amenities of our country, but are too ignorant to learn the proper communication channels. I'm not saying every immigrant is this way- my fiance is from Prague and in her four years here she has done very well in learning English. But I have seen many instances in which generations of families that have taken residency still do not know a bit of English. It is a bit frustrating.
