How stupid are people? I suppose she would have driven
off a cliff if that was the direction given!

You'd be surprised at how "blind" some people can be.

I was talking to some colleagues, the other day, re. the benefit of sat. nav. They were extremely enthusiastic about it, telling me how programmed trips around back country lanes can be significantly quicker than the more direct routes. However, as the story suggests, there can be pitfalls to blindly following what the device tells you.

A few months back, on one of those very back country lanes, there was the tale of the infamous ford. The sat. nav. claimed it was only about six inches deep; in fact it was more like two foot. I believe the local farmer made quite a living out of dragging people out, until, that is, it was publicised.
