I always enjoy the type of threads that start out with "I'd really like to know..." and later the truth comes out that you don't. A few people tried to gently lay it out and now...

I started it in the attempt to make at least one of you
christians read what I said and then take a moment to
digest the absolute absurdity of most christians when
they claim that they speak for god, or that prayer "works",
or that god is a republican. And I'm doing this because
NOBODY ELSE WILL. This is why the thought of Sarah Palin
in the White House gave me acid reflux. I would just like
ONE reporter to stick a microphone in Palin's face and
ask "so, what about this god thing now? Is he going to
renege on that whole pipeline thing, too?"

So it seems you just have something to get off your chest, not really trying to "learn" anything as your post seemed to indicate.

Instead, what do I get? A bunch of long-winded, nonsensical
historical "evidence" regarding some goofball who got
nailed to a cross.

It's OK that you choose not to believe it. As previously mentioned, Josephus made mention of Christ's existence, Tacitus and others have. It's not volumes of evidence, but these guys were not "Christians" but secular all the way. Just historians. You won't believe secular historians either, because they don't line up with your belief system. BTW, as previously mentioned again, you can't disprove Christ existed, you can only claim he did not, and that doesn't hold any weight either.

...and some excellent commentary from Dean Roddey,
the blather keeps on a-comin'.

So it is blather when you don't agree, but excellent commentary when you do.

Speaking of Dean Roddey; Dean, please continue trying
to sway these folks because I don't have the patience
to go on that fool's errand of trying to explain why you
can't prove something doesn't exist (as it is non-falsifiable).
If they only knew how many other "virgin birth", "son-of-a-deity",
"resurrected holy person" fables predate the story of
Jesus Christ they might rethink this whole religion thing.

Don't misunderstand me, I'm not mad at you and am not trying to make you mad at me. I just don't get the sincerity of "I want to understand" when you really mean to say, "I need to vent".

Hope you are all better now!! :^)
There is no truth anymore. Only assertions. The internet world has no interest in truth, only vindication for preconceived assumptions.
