Basically every time someone visits the forum the server needs to record who, when and what you were doing into a database. It can then use that information to compile lists of who's where or online. That's a lot of extra load on a database, and I don't feel comfortable adding that at this time - at least not until I know how the new system (which is itself going to add much more database load) behaves when it's getting hammered.
