I had an issue once when I hooked up an old Hi-8 camcorder to a Philips DVD-R/RW that was just like what you are experiencing, except my prob. was the video feed was bad and audio was good.

I happened to have an old Composite to RF modulator from an old kitchen TV, I hooked the camera up to the mod. via composite, ran the RF to the DVD-RW and it worked like a charm. I never found out what the problem was, but was happy with the finished results.

Worth a shot I guess, no?
