Programming IR remote control for CE devices is very difficult. The normal software API from Microsoft only lets you talk in IRDA. IRDA is not compatible with Consumer remote controls. To work around this problem, the developer must code to the specific hardware. That means each pda requires a different source code base. Also, the IRDA port on most PDA's is not very strong, and has a limited range. Because the IPAQ is so popular (And I hear the IR transmitter is fairly strong ) you might see some software developed for it. Also, add on hardware might become available (like the Palmremote).
