HP iPAQ rx3000 control software compliant UPnP : Nevo 2.0

UPnP is a technology that makes home networking invisible to the consumer. UPnP builds on existing Internet standards to enable PCs, PPCs and intelligent networked devices in the home (such as audio and video devices) to automatically connect with one another and work together without requiring the user to set up complicated network settings.

An UPnP control point (PPC, TabletPC, …) in a UPnP network is a controller capable of discovering and controlling other devices (UPnP devices: HTPC, TV, VCR, DVR, …).

Legacy devices, like X10 light, can participate in the UPnP network through a UPnP bridge or proxy.

After discovery, a control point could:
. Retrieve the device description and get a list of associated services.
. Retrieve service descriptions for interesting services (TV: play, stop, …; DVR: ….; ….).
. Invoke actions to control the service.
. Subscribe to the service’s event source. Anytime the state of the service changes, the event server will send an event to the control point.
