After a quick look I can not see the 'RCDEV' file

The RCDEV files are the device configuration files generated by Total Remote, and should be found in a subdirectory called DeviceFiles off of the main Total Remote directory. On a default install this would be Program Files/Total Remote/DeviceFiles.
The only other problem is I have run out of the
software evaluation period. Can you confirm I
should be able to use the software with the Axim
X30 without to much trouble?
Yes, the X30 is an extremely good platform for Total Remote. It cannot use the audio transmitter due to limitations of the X30's audio hardware, but it had incredibly strong IrDA output and has been tested to work over 40 feet.
